How can I restrict student access to answers, exams, and such? (CD-ROM version)
Click on the Edit menu and select Edit Environment Settings. Select the tab labeled Access Settings. This will allow you to set access passwords, answer access, and Strict Lesson Sequencing.
Why can't I use my master account to run the program?
Master accounts are for administrative purposes only. Only student sub-accounts are authorized to use the program.
How can I retrieve a System Administration Database Report with the new system administration utility?
After logging in to System Administration with your master account ID and password, click the link entitled Retrieve Sub Account List near the top of the page. Select which accounts you wish to display and press Submit. Once the Sub Account List has appeared on screen, it's possible to retrieve a wide range of useful information by clicking on links within the list. For example, click Retrieve in the tracking column to see a student's quiz and test scores.
My scores aren't being saved in Release 20. What's going on?
In Release 20 the location for saved scores has been changed. In Releases this-is-a-test.doc and 19 the location to save scores was specified by a file name (eg. A:\SCORES.TXT). In Release 20 the location is specified by a folder. When upgrading from Releases this-is-a-test.doc/19 to Release 20, be sure to edit your environment settings and specify a folder name to save scores. The easiest way is to erase the file name component leaving the folder component. For example, if the previous score file name was A:\SCORES.TXT, one should erase the SCORES.TXT part leaving just the A:\ part. See the How to Save Scores guidance for additional information.
Does the VIASINC program ever expire?
Yes. The CD-ROM version has a fixed calendar expiration date. The Internet version expires when the allotted time is used.
How can I activate my CDROM?
Please see the CD Activation and Registration instructions.
Why must students supply the correct answer in order to progress in some cases?
In quizzes, the student has to input the correct answer before moving to the next question. If the answer is wrong once, the student is told to try again and is given the keyword hint. However, in tests, this is not the case. Students automatically progress to the next question regardless of whether the question was answered correctly or not.
What will happen to the MARSHA system?
VIASINC is phasing out the MARSHA training system and will eventually replace it with training for a system used by the Cendant Corporation (Ramada, Days Inn, Howard Johnson, and others).
Since some students do not have e-mail addresses, can I specify the college address for them?
Yes. VIASINC does not care what e-mail address is specified.
I loose my bookmarks and last location when I exit the program. What's wrong? (CD-ROM version)
This information is stored in the Windows User Profile. Some school networks are configured so students do not have their own user profiles.
My internet connection is behind a proxy server. Can I run VIASINC?
Yes. Please see Proxy Server Configuration for details.
How can I contact the VIASINC Customer Support Group?
You can use the Request for Assistance form, or you can e-mail the Support Group directly using support@viasinc.com.
How do I know what VIASINC release I'm running?
Launch the VIASINC program. Click on the Help menu and select About. The VIASINC release number is displayed below the copyright notice.
How do I know what version of Internet Explorer I have?
Launch Internet Explorer. Click on the Help menu and select About. The version number will be shown below the Internet Explorer logo.
What's the difference between the internet version and the CD-ROM version?
The curriculum is identical. The user interface is identical. The only difference is the delivery method. With the internet version the delivery is over the wire so you always have access to the latest and most up-to-date material.
What is the Special Purpose E-mail Address?
It is used for printing. See the Printer Setup instructions for details.
What is keyboard mapping?
In each GDS system, certain keys are "mapped" to special characters. For example, in Sabre the "+/=" key will produce the "*" symbol and the comma key in Apollo will produce the end-item. These keys are mapped in the VIASINC emulator to match the GDS system being taught. However, they are not mapped in the text window. This is because the text window acts like a word processor and the emulator window acts like a GDS. Therefore, the keyboard mapping is not available when a student is asked to make an entry within the lesson window (i.e. in some review questions and in the final exam).
I've received my master account user ID and password. What do I do now?
You need to setup student sub-accounts so your students can access the program. See the Internet Account Setup instructions for detailed guidance.
How can I reclaim time from a student sub-account?
Please see the How to Transfer Time instructions for guidance.
How can I configure the CD-ROM version to save scores to a floppy disk?
Please see the How to Save Scores instructions for guidance.
I am a student. Can I use the System Administration utility?
Yes. Just log in using your normal Account ID and password.
Can I check my test scores without using my internet account time?
You can use the System Administration utility to check your scores. Time is not deducted for use of the system administration utility. Just log in using your normal Account ID and password.
What is Strict Lesson Sequencing?
Strict Lesson Sequencing is a setting that will require the student to complete the course in the pre-defined order. This is not recommended or necessary, as the program will guide the student through the correct order no matter what. If you set Strict Lesson Sequencing, a student is not allowed to skip ahead or go back.
