Overview
Covering the principles of absence management and your role and responsibilities. Directly applying the process within your environment. This course illustrates the principles as well as the skills and steps that need to be taken in order to promote awareness of absence management and implement the process successfully. Participants will take part in interactive exercises to help increase confidence.

• Encourage open communication by one to one meetings.
• Recognise and work with the unique situations of team members.
• Use appropriate techniques to motivate and develop individuals.
• Deal with absence concerns quickly, confidently and professionally.

Content
What is absence management

Understand the principles and statistics surrounding absence management.
Consider impact of non-attendance by individuals.
Plan your approach to implement procedures. 

Procedure development 
Work through the stages of a structured procedure.
Recognise and appreciate the diversity of individual situations.

The back to work meeting
Plan the meeting - identify questions linked to absence.
Plan ahead - create an action plan.
Overcome objections and resistance.

Problem solving and managing difficult situations
Tools for generating and choosing the right solutions.
Conflict situations - how to resolve them.
Strategies for dealing with difficult and personal situations.
Use interpersonal skills to deliver effective communication.

Motivating the team
Goals for personal development and growth.
Encourage individual responsibility as part of a team.
Encourage positive input from individuals.

Duration:  2 day  (2 days do not have to be taken consecutively)
Suggested maximum number of participants:  12
